BIO (update 8/1/2016):
We have had the pleasure of Fostering Baxter for a few weeks now, and he is a perfect gentleman!  He has come a long way with his separation anxiety and only rarely barks.  Speaking of barking, he has a big bark for such a little guy and sounds like a seal!  He loves spending time outside and really enjoys having a doggy door which allows him the freedom to do so. Occasionally he will grab a toy or play with one of his Foster Siblings, but he is mostly just very easy going.  If Baxter gets worked up about something, it is probably a good idea to pay attention.  You could not ask for a better bed partner or even a couch potato partner!  There is just nothing bad to say about this little man... he is friendly, well-adjusted, potty trained and just look at his handsome little face!  All he needs is a furever family to call his own.

BIO: If you are looking for a handsome little guy who is good with other animals, good with people, and potty trained, Baxter could be your man!  He lived with the same family his entire life until they had to move to a place that does not allow animals.  Baxter is not a big barker and is more of an “investigate first, bark later” kind of guy.  He walks well on a leash and rides well in the car.  Baxter has some mild separation anxiety which will get better if treated properly.  Also, he has some hair loss on his back and has been diagnosed with Alopecia which can be treated with Omega 3.  The hair on his back has started growing in white which gives him that ‘fawn like’ look.  Baxter has not been in our home for very long, but he came in and made himself right at home.  He is smart, affectionate and enjoys his time with his humans.  If Baxter sounds like a good fit for your pack, visit Allamericandachshundrescue.org to apply and/or contact Foster Mom at decollinss@aol.com.

More about Baxter.....OH

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
