Bio Update: 7/19/16
Foster Mom here! Bear has been in his foster home now for almost 4 weeks and we have learned a lot about one another in that short time, like he'd do best in home with a fenced yard. This is the sweetest little creature that wants nothing more than to love and be loved by his human. He has many of the Doxie traits we all love and adore and can be a little bossy. He lives with another little bossy doxie, so in the beginning they kept me very vigilant of their interactions. As of this update, the two are great friends who play, run and lay together and even lick each other. And they bark. The dogs have access to the outside world at all times through a large window and sometimes it can keep them quite excited. He is still quite attached to me and still shows signs of separation anxiety but that too has improved since he has become more comfortable in the home and getting along with the other dogs. He
cannot
go to a home with cats. He loses all sense of himself when he sees the neighborhood cats out and about and would literally go through a window if possible. He loves to be in the yard chasing birds, squirrels and absolutely anything else that moves and still prefers me to be with him but will stay out for short periods if he is distracted by playing and running with his foster brother. The ideal home for Bear would be someone that is home most of the day and have another dog to play with. Just keep in mind he is very energetic and alert and should not be crated more than 4 hours a day. He has a wonderful, sweet and funny personality but can be reactive to most any activity outside so vigilance is a must. With all that said, he is quite easy to live with, totally housebroken and loves the big bed with the rest of the pack. Did I mention how cute he is?
Look at that face! Can you take it? Pretty cute, eh? Well, IT’S MINE! I am told I’m quite irresistible. What do you think?
AADR rescued me from an animal shelter in Tennessee when my family gave me up for supposedly biting or nipping a child. So, my new home shouldn’t have any small children. My fur was all matted and had to be shaved so I wasn’t taken care of the way I should have been. Since coming to AADR, I have been fully vetted and even got my teeth cleaned. Now they are all sparkly white. I may not be ALL Doxie, but I’m pretty great just the way I am. Not to mention enormously cute. Especially with the little chip of blue in my left eye.
They say I’m 4 years old but Foster Mom says I’m much more puppy-like. I’m a hefty little fellow at almost 15 pounds so unfortunately I’m on a diet and need to lose 2 or 3 pounds. Before long I will be slim and trim and knocking the girls off their paws! I’m potty trained and have had no accidents in the house at all but I do go out regularly and often. I enjoy going outside but I want Foster Mom with me at all times or I will whine to get back in and let me tell you, I can do some serious whining. LOUD serious whining. FM is afraid the neighbors are going to think I am being tortured so she runs back to be with me or let me in. I only have eyes for my foster mom and don’t have much time for my foster brother and sister so I will probably do great as an only child. I’m learning to “share” everything from FM’s attention to space. Also, when things get really excited in the house, like my foster brother barking at the mailman, I want to “urge” him to cut it out. No biting but just a little warning. So I have been a little testy with the other dogs in the house but we are working on that and big improvements have been made in just a few short days.
I am crate trained and actually like to lay in my crate while everyone is quietly watching TV, but I want the door open. I am crated when FM goes out and I do seem to have some separation anxiety because she can hear that loud whine all the way to the car. And when she walks back in the door I start again until I’m free and get calmed down. So I would not be a good candidate to be crated for long hours. That would be way too stressful.
If you want a love bug, I’m your boy! There is nothing I love more than to curl up in FM’s lap or around her neck on the back of the sofa and nibble on her ear and give little kisses. She seems to like it so I’m more than happy to oblige her. She lets me sleep on the big bed with her and my foster brother and sister and I like that a lot too.
Well, that’s about it for now. I do promise that whoever decides I am the perfect fit for their home, I will love you to the moon and back and then some. Can you handle all that love from the cutest face on the planet? If so, I’m waiting for you!
=============== Information for all dogs/adopters ==============
If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 Fee added for the required Health Certificate.
We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.
We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of $45.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another $50.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please visit the Adoption Information. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.
If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
