BIO:

Hi everyone, my name is Rosie and I’m from Memphis, TN and I was surrendered to rescue by a family member of an abusive back- yard breeder.  It was the best day of my life when they found someone that was a member of All American Dachshund Rescue that lived in my home town.  They immediately took me into their family even though I had many medical and social issues.  I couldn’t walk on my hind legs and it was feared that I had Intevertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) but the rescue did a myelogram and I didn’t have a ruptured disc after all (yippie!), it was nerve damage so they started my laser therapy and today I’m up and walking the wobble walk 80% of the time.  I still do have potty issues but if you keep to a strict potty routine, I’m no problem at all.  I’m scared of strangers and do get a little on the defensive side but if you give me my space, show kindness, patience and love I will stick to you like glue on paper. I’m currently going to behavioral modification sessions at ProTrain and taking Prozac to help calm my stress/fear factors. I like my sessions with Mr. Bailey and look forward to each one.  I love my foster siblings but am not fond of the larger breed dogs.  Children make me very nervous so a mature older couple or individual is preferred.  My foster mom’s sister has a cat and I get along with her just fine.  I’m very scared of storms so just keep me close to you during the thunder and lighting. I am leash trained but only on grass, concrete is not my best friend. I don't mind being crated for a little while but if you plan on being gone all day it brings back too many sad memories. I love the big bed with my foster mom.  I must be adopted within a 300 mile radius of Memphis, TN and my furever family must be willing to meet half-way for a lengthy meet and greet. Are you the forever home that is willing to take on a challenge and make me the perfect part of your family forever?

More about Rosie...TN

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
