Your heart will melt when you set eyes on Lucy Lu. This picture does not do her justice. She has big brown eyes that can warm any ones heart. Lucy Lu was confiscated by an animal control officer who noticed her chained up outside with no shelter or water way too many times. When no one came to collect Lucy Lu she was turned over to rescue. Lucy Lu is a beautiful girl with a sweet personality. She is a red smooth weighing in around 12 pounds believed to be around 2 years old. Lucy Lu was a little apprehensive when she got to her foster home but made herself at home quickly. She loves all the dogs in her foster home including the big coon hound. What she doesn’t like is being stepped on in bed by the others dogs while she’s lounging under the covers. If Lucy Lu could live out the rest of her life on a regular bed, under the covers she would be in doggie heaven. Bedbug just doesn’t describe how much Lucy Lu loves to lie around on the bed. Lucy Lu is submissive and would be good with children who know how to respect a dog. Lucy Lu must have been yelled at a lot in her former home because she cowers if a voice is raised. She loves being held and having your attention, something she apparently never received. Since there are no cats in her current home we prefer she go to a cat free home. Lucy has been spayed, brought current with her vaccines and is on heartworm and flea prevention.Lucy Lu is not crate trained and is house broken with a doggie-door. When she first arrived in her foster home Lucy Lu was crated but she kept sticking her nose thru the wire slats and making her nose raw, so she has not been crated since, but spends her day in the bed. If you can offer Lucy Lu lots of cuddling time and a queen size bed to lounge in please e-mail her foster parents oscarbcsg@sprintmail.com or fill out the on-line adoption application and specify you are interested in Lucy Lu. Preference will be given to North Carolina applicants but applications from South Carolina and Virginia will also be considered.

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
