ADOPTION FEE....."A DONATION FROM THE HEART"

Hi! My name is honey and I am about 10 to 12 years old. I am a tweenie red dachshund with wonderful "frosting" as my foster mom says. Don't look at my figure right now because I am working hard to lose those extra pounds. I weigh close to 14 pounds and need to lose a couple more. I am what is known as a "Powell Road Drop Off" because that is the road that I was found on. This road is "the road" in my town that people go to drop off unwanted pets. The collar that I am wearing is the one that I was wearing when I was found. The lady that found me posted flyers everywhere in town and went to the animal shelter and the vet offices to see if anyone was missing me but noone was. She tried for an entire month to find who I belonged to! The lady who found me said she would have loved to have kept me but she knew that she couldn't afford to take care of me. My teeth were hurting and she saw that I had lumps on me. Rescue took me and got my teeth cleaned and lost a few teeth. My foster mom was told that I have very beginning cataracts but right now they are not causing any problems for me. My foster mom thinks that I belonged to an older person at one point and he or she likely passed away or went into a nursing home and the family didn't want me. If you are a looking for a laid back dogs who still loves to go for walks then I am the dog for you. I will sleep in my crate at night but I know that I would love to get in bed with you. I would like a home where I won't be thrown away again.

A note from Honey's foster mom:
Honey is a sweetheart. She is around 10-12 years old.  Does well with other dogs and cats but mostly is content to sleep quietly.   Loves for you to act like you are going to chase her and she'll run, then comeback roll over on her back for you to rub her tummy.  She is housebroken and does really well if she it let out (unless it's raining). If you want an older pet with lots of love to give this is her.

Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
