BIO:

Nadia is a sweet and gentle little lady who was tied to the porch when her owner died.  We don't know how long she and her dachshund friend Asher were out there, but they were lonely, matted, and missing hair from all the fleas.  A kind rescuer got them to AADR.  Nadia is still missing some hair on her ears and tail, but with good quality food and no more itchy fleas, it is growing in well.

Nadia has been happy to greet the new people she meets, including children.  She walks well on a leash and loves to stroll around town.  Nadia is a pretty laid back girl and is happy to nap in her dog bed or sit in a lap.  She enjoys sunning herself on the porch and watching the squirrels and neighbors.  Nadia would do well with children who are old enough to understand that they must be gentle with her.

Nadia gets along well with other dogs and would be okay with or without another dog in the house, as long as she gets attention from her people.  She gets very excited when we see cats, so she would not do well with a cat, bunny, or other small animal in the house.

Because she was outside for so long, Nadia has been renewing her housebreaking skills.  She is making excellent progress, but you need to make sure she does her business outside before she comes back in.  A tasty treat reward has worked wonders for this.  She would do best with a fenced yard and dog door.  At night Nadia runs into her crate and sleeps quietly all night with no accidents.

If you are looking for a sweet and pretty little lady to add to your family, Nadia is the girl for you!

More about Nadia.....NY

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
