BIO:

Asher is a cheerful boy who was tied to the porch when his owner died.  We don't know how long he and his dachshund friend Nadia were out there, but they were lonely, matted, and missing hair from all the fleas.  A kind rescuer got them to AADR.  Asher's coat is still a little scraggly, but he is looking and feeling much better.  He is very happy to be living in a house again.

Asher is very friendly and walks well on a leash.  He enjoys walks around the neighborhood.  Asher's favorite activity is chasing his ball.  He will get it and bring it back to you as many times as you will throw it for him!  When he tires you out, he will lay patiently with his ball until you are ready to play again.  When he isn't playing with his ball, Asher is pretty laid back and happy to snooze in his dog bed or sit in a lap.  He would do well with children who are old enough to understand that they must be gentle with him.  Asher gets along very well with other dogs.  He would be happy with or without another dog in the family.  He has a very high prey drive and would not do well with a cat, bunny, or other small animal in the house.

Because he was outside for so long, Asher has needed a refresher course on house training.  He is making excellent progress, but sometimes still uses a pee pad instead of asking to go out.  He would do best with a fenced yard and dog door.  He is doing very well, so with patience and continued training, he will get there.  At night he sleeps quietly in his crate with no accidents.

If you are looking for more fun and happiness in  your life, Asher is your guy!

More about Asher number 2......TN

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
