BIO:  Nitro is an 18 month old adorable dachshund who is now enjoying being a dog. This sweet boy was a surrendered with other doxies who were kept outside in a fenced area and were not given much attention. Nitro is so sweet and loves to get and give love! However, he is skittish with any quick movement and leery with my husband, which makes me believe the man owner probably only gave discipline but not much love. Nitro has improved in the area of being skittish around me, but is still on guard with my husband. Chas is able to pet him and Nitro is curious about him though.

Nitro gets along fine with our other 3 dachshunds and chases our next door neighbor cat when he comes inside, but then leaves him alone. He probably would end up best friends with him. Nitro and one of our doxies have played some but basically they all just lay in separate beds, but get along just fine. Nitro likes to go on car rides and explore the outdoors in our backyard looking for lizards and squirrels. Thus far he has not been a big barker, which is a plus.

So if you are looking for a sweet, beautiful red doxie, Nitro is for you. His coat is smooth and shiny, he has big paws with wrinkled front legs, and big bright eyes-for sure the eyes of love. I believe he would be good in a home that only wants one dog or in a home with many. Nitro just wants your approval and he aims to please!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
