BIO:

Hi, my name is Gracie! Two weeks ago, I found myself abandoned at a local shelter in Tennessee. I was so scared. Thank goodness they called my foster mom and she came right down and rescued me. I was left at the shelter because I have seizures and my first mom didn’t want to deal with them. I am now on medication and my foster family hasn’t seen any sign of an issue. I will have to take this medicine for the rest of my life so I need a special family that will commit to keeping me on it. I also really need a daddy. I love my foster mom but daddy is my favorite person. My foster family thinks that since I was abandoned by a female that there must be a man somewhere that I am missing very badly. Daddy makes my tail wag the hardest and gets the most kisses from me. I also really like to snuggle with him in his big chair. My foster mom says that I am a very special girl. I am calm, quiet (I haven’t barked once in the two weeks that I’ve been here!) and I love to snuggle. I am very frightened of loud noises like thunder and fireworks. I even get scared when one of my furry foster brothers and sisters drops a toy on the floor! Foster mom and dad are helping me work on that issue. I love to go for walks and spend time outside. A fenced in yard would be a really great thing for me. I get along really well with my furry foster brothers and sisters. I don’t like to play with them but I do like to hang out and watch them play. I have a 10 year old human foster brother and I really like him so I think older kids in my house would be ok. Oh yeah, I am a standard dachshund so I am a big girl. Just more of me to love!!!!

Gracie is the calmest and sweetest little girl that we have ever fostered. She just wants to be by your side or in your lap. She just wants to know that she is loved and safe. She has come so far in the last few weeks. She has gone from the confused and scared little girl to one that is happy because she knows that she is safe and loved. I really want to stress that we think a daddy is important for her. She needs a man that will be willing to take a very active part in her life and will understand that he will be her human of choice. If you think that Gracie will be a fit for your family or if you have any questions, please contact her foster mom.

More about Gracie......TN

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
