BIO: Hi my name is Blaze and I came by that name because I have a blaze of white down my chest.

I came in with a couple other fellas when my owner could no longer care for me in Middle AL because of declining health so here I am!

I’m pretty friendly if you’ll just give me a minute to check you out then I’m your best buddy!

I would really like a fenced in yard and another buddy, doesn’t matter male or female to play and snuggle with. This being a pet is all brand new to me so I need a buddy to show me the ropes. I don’t think an apartment is the place for me cause I’m not sure about leashes but I am crate trained and will go in my crate and sleep all night.

I’m not sure about those things they call cats but I guess my foster mom could get me cat tested if you have one but I sure would prefer another doggie like me so they can teach me to play with toys and chase squirrels, that would be GREAT. Are you that home??

Update 12/4/15: After several weeks of steroids and crate rest due to wiggle walking, Blaze went down in the back.  Blaze had IVDD surgery on Nov. 9, 2015.   After two more weeks of strict crate rest, he now is having daily PT at home.  He still has a wiggle walk, but is no longer dragging his back end. Surgery was on T12-T13.  He still has calcified discs at T-11, T13-L1, L1-L2.  We are working to strengthen his core and his muscle tone.  He is still sweet as can be and is tolerating his daily PT.  He has adjusted well in his foster home.

=============== Information for all dogs/adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 Fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of $45.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another $50.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please visit the Adoption Information.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Blaze.....FL

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
