BIO: Shadow came from the humane shelter in Louisville, KY because in the shelter environment she didn’t show well enough to be adopted. Most times little dogs get overwhelmed in shelters where there is a lot of noise and confusion. So they reached out to us and we said we’d take her. She has not displayed any fear or aggression since she came to us. What we have found is that she is VERY playful and needs another younger dog to play with or a VERY active family to keep her happy and tired. She will engage any dog in play including bugging them until they play with her.

She’s a happy, happy girl and we want her to go somewhere with a fenced-in yard and another dog to play with. Apartment living would not be good for this little girl, she needs a home and a yard. She will bark but she is not a barker. She has a TON of personality and is quite fun to watch.

Could you consider this little girl for your next family member?

Good with Dogs

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
