BIO

Hi! My name is Dill. I’m looking for a new home because my human parents split up. I’m sad about that, but I’m staying with a really nice family in Indiana, with lots of girls. I like the elderly Dachshund gentleman in the house, but he just isn’t as much fun to run and play with as those three pretty girls. But those girls sure don’t let me get away with any funny business. No sir! If I get out of line they let me know it, and I back off in a hurry.

My foster mom and dad give me lots of love and extra bits of food, she says I’m underweight. I’m not sure what that is, but I like all of the good food I’m getting. They make us all follow the rules and say, “I’m a great boy with good manners.” I know basic commands, am house trained, crate trained, know how to use the doggie door and to stop barking when told to “Hush!” I love to sit on the furniture, but my foster mom only let’s me on the furniture with her and says, “OFF,” which I’ve learned means get off the furniture.

If you’re thinking of adding a fun boy, who likes to play with toys, go for walks, has good manners, and is a super cuddler, maybe I’m the Dachshund for you.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
