Lost, lonely and very thin Cruiser scavenged for food and a safe place to sleep. He had been seen hanging around an asphalt company for at least a month sleeping at night inside the equipment. Finally someone took interest in feeding him and trying to get him to safety. It took quite sometime to gain his trust but once that happened Cruiser went willingly into rescue.
Cruiser is a very handsome black and tan smooth estimated to be about 1-2 years old and weighing 12 pounds but still needing to gain weight. Cruiser is one of those dogs you wish every dog could be cloned after. He has a wonderful friendly personality. He is great around other dogs, even the large ones. There hasn’t been a person he hasn’t liked and he could be trusted around young children. The only question would be a cat because there are none in his foster home. Cruiser quickly adjusted to his foster home and established him self as a clown. He just loves to play and for him there is nothing better then rolling around on the bed rough housing. We know that he survived alone by himself but since he loves to play Cruiser needs a home with another playful dog. His new home also needs a fenced in backyard for Cruiser to run and play in.
Cruiser is 100% housebroken but with a doggie door. Even though Cruiser is a clown most of the time he’s also a lover. He adores being the center of attention when he’s being cuddled by his foster Mom. At night he will want to sleep in the bed with you snuggled really close, but that’s after he gives his goodnight kisses.

Cruiser is a healthy little boy who has recently been neutered and brought current on his vaccines. He is on heartworm and flea preventative. He has had his teeth cleaned and is crate trained.

If you can offer a forever home and would like a lifetime of unconditional love then consider adopting Cruiser. Please e-mail his foster parents at oscarbcsg@sprintmail.com or fill out the on-line adoption application and specify you are interested in Cruiser.  Preference will be given to North Carolina applicants but applications from South Carolina and Virginia will also be considered.

More about CRUISER

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
