Darby is a red, longhair, female, miniature Dachshund. She weighs less than 8 pounds. Darby is an absolute sweetheart and loves to be loved on. She is a retired breeder dog. She came to us very shy and afraid, but is slowing learning that humans are worthy of her trust. She is coming out nicely and beginning to be more social. She has been exposed to a 2 and 11 year old, and does well with them. She does well with dogs and has been introduced to cats without any problems.
Darby is spayed, UTD on shots, HW negative and on prevention. Darby is currently being crate trained, and is doing very well with, but will require additional crate training to help with housebreaking. Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
