My name is Grey and I was a former puppy mill breeder dog. Luck was with us when our breeder decided to go out of business giving many dogs a chance at the good life.Grey is a blue and tan smooth mini weighing only 8.0 pounds. He was, of course, very frighten of his new surroundings when he first came into rescue. He ran and hid from people but felt very comfortable around all the other foster dachshunds in his new home. Grey is a very sweet boy and is still adjusting, still learning to trust. He is now sleeping in the bed with his foster parents and enjoys being picked up and held. Grey is good with other dogs but will not tolerate a large dog. Since Grey has never really been alone it would be best if he is adopted into a home with another small dog, preferably a Dachshund. Needless to say Grey is crate trained and working on housebreaking. He now has access to a doggie door and is doing very well with it. He still prefers if you go out with him though for potty breaks. He needs a home where he can be put on a regular routine which would help him on the way to house breaking. Grey loves to go outside and play with his foster siblings. He loves to hunt for bugs and anything that crawls. Over time Grey will become trusting of his new guardians and become a wonderful companion. He will need someone with patience to help him overcome his puppy mill past. Grey would be good with older children who are used to being around a small dog and respect its space. A cat is questionable since no cats are in the foster home. Grey is not leash trained so he needs a fenced in yard for safety and sunbathing.
Grey has recently been neutered. He is now current on his vaccines, heartworm negative and on heartworm and flea prevention. He is microchipped and also has had his teeth cleaned.
If you have the patience to guide this precious little boy into becoming a companion dog please e-mail his foster parent’s oscarbcsg@sprintmail.comor fill out the on-line adoption application and specify you are interested in Grey.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
