BIO:

Hi everyone, this is Dexter. Dexter came to us because he wasn’t getting along with his owners' cats.

Dexter is such a happy guy, his tail is always thumping with pure joy when he sees you. He is very laid back and loves to be whereever his human is. He walks well on a leash and loves to play ball or with the other pups.

He gets along great with children and dogs of all sizes. He would be fine being the only dog or having a brother or sister to pal around with. I don't think he has ever met a stranger, he's eager to get belly rubs from anyone who will oblige.

He is also potty trained if kept on a schedule and doesn't need to be crated as long as he things to keep him busy (ie. toys, chewies, etc.).

Won't you open your heart and home to this cute little guy? He loves to please his human and really craves that human interaction and attention.

Unfortunately he is being treated for heartworms at this time and won’t be able to leave his foster mom until the end of November. He will come with approximately 4 months of heartworm meds and will need to be re-tested once this is gone.

Please don’t let this stop you from adopting this sweet boy, he is truly worth the wait! He will repay you over and over with unconditional love and kisses!

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteer that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
