BIO:

My name is Betsy and I have had a bit of a rough go. I ended up in a shelter in Southern KY with some wounds, fleas and skin irritations. Thankfully AADR scooped me up and I am on my way to healing and my foster mommy is working on treating my skin where I was bitten. I do have some hair loss and flaky skin but hopefully with time this will clear up with time.

I am hesitant of strangers and will bark for a bit until I know everything will be ok. Loud noises and sudden movements scare me so a home without children would be best. I would love a nice quiet home and not be left for hours as I really do not like to be by myself.

I love to snuggle and I want to be wherever my foster mommy is at all times. I really enjoy my foster mommy’s lap (but will settle for foster daddy if need be) and definitely love sleeping in the big bed so I know I’m safe at night. I am housebroken as long as I am on a schedule but I will use pee pee pads if you need to go out for a bit. I get along great with my foster brothers and sisters and will roll over for belly rubs.

I will need some time to heal but I am really a sweet little dog.

=============== Information for all dogs/adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 Fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of $45.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another $50.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please visit the Adoption Information.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Betsy.....KY

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
