BIO:

My name is Cookie and for no fault of my own I ended up in a shelter as an owner surrender. The shelter was a very scary place, especially when you cannot see!! Luckily AADR came to get me and now I’m in a comfortable home with my foster mommy and daddy.

I LOVE to snuggle and I want to be wherever my foster parents are at all times. I am adjusting quickly and figuring out my surrounds, so I’m getting around just fine. I LOVE sleeping in the big bed as I feel very secure. I have not really been on a leash before, it’s a little confusing, but my foster parents are very gentle and I have been making progress! I am housebroken as long as I am on a schedule but I will use pee pee pads if you need to go out for a bit.

I would enjoy having a fenced in yard to explore a bit but I would still l need you to be there so I know I’m not alone…...I get along fine with my foster brothers and sisters as long as they do not try to get into my face, that makes me nervous so I would be ok being an only dog or being with a buddy that is low energy like me……Oh and did I say I can dance? I love when you sing my name!!

If you have a special place in your heart for a senior petite dachshund, then I’m your lady!!

More about Cookie.....KY

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
