BIO:

Have you ever thought a mini dachshund was too small for you? Well, meet Gretel! Gretel is a 5 year old standard dachshund, long haired black dapple. She weighs in at 20.5 pounds, which is the perfect weight for her. Gretel came to AADR as a stray. She has had puppies at some time in her short lifetime. As a long haired Doxie, Gretel requires daily brushing. However, Gretel loves to be brushed, and will let you maneuver her to any position in order to be touched. Her favorite place to be is with her human whether it be following you around the house, on the couch, or up against you in the big bed. Gretel gets along well with other dogs. She does not have an aggressive bone in her body. She is not a big kisser, just a few licks and she is done. Her tail wags like crazy when getting belly rubs. She is such an easy keeper that she would be fine in an apartment or a home. Gretel will use a doggie door, walks well on a leash, she is welcoming to people and children she meets when out for a walk or when company comes over. Gretel is not a crazy barker either. She only barks when the other dogs get going after first going to see what's up. If she's not interested, she will leave them and come back into the house. If you are interest in a full size Doxie lady, please complete an application on the All American Dachshund Rescue web page.  www.allamericandachshundrescue.org

=============== Information for all dogs/adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 Fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of $45.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another $50.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please visit the Adoption Information.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Gretel.........TN

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
