BIO: UPDATE:

Sampson is a sweetheart. He has beautiful blue and brown eyes, and is a very handsome pup all around. He can be shy at first, but soon enough he will beg for belly rubs like the best of them. It took him a few days to really start interacting with my household of 4 (2 dogs, 2 humans), but he has adapted to us really well once he got used to the new environment. He is especially fond of my dachshund; they will play and cuddle all day like best friends. He is definitely a snuggler, and better yet, a burrower! If you let him, he will sleep in the bed all night long, especially if you let him under the covers.

He loves to go on walks, play outside, and best of all, chase squirrels. He does get a little bit anxious sometimes and will chew on his tail if he is stressed, but he is not destructive at all and does great in a crate at night. He also listens quite well after being with us for just a couple days. He does like his personal space around my beagle mix, so I would say small dogs are best.

I think Sampson has a lot of love to give and would do so well if you give him a chance to really warm up and be part of a family. He’s a sweet boy that can’t wait to meet his forever home!

Sampson, aka ‘Sam’ is a sweet, sweet pup!  He was introduced to our family of four (my daughter (15) and our two fur babies) and has taken to us really well.  He is an absolute cuddle bug!  He loves to root under the blankets to sleep.  He loves to be outside in the sunshine and will chase squirrels all day long.  He has a few pounds to lose but has been on a strict diet and gets plenty of exercise so that will not be an issue in the coming weeks.  He listens very well and has had no trouble fitting in with Willie and Arlo.

The one thing that I see to be a concern is that he has not done well with my 3 year old niece so I’m recommending that he doesn’t go to a home with small children.  I think it is that she is very rambunctuous and it makes him nervous so he wants to chase after her, which only escalates the situation.

Sam is going to be a great addition to any home.  He has a lot of love to give to someone willing to take the time to make him a part of their family.  He is a bit shy at first but warms up very quickly.  We were napping on the couch together on the first day that he came to my house.  He jumped up on the couch with me like he owned it!

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
