BIO:  Oscar#8/Jasper is a sweet, snuggly, loyal and loving “tweenie”-sized glossy black/silver dapple dachshund looking for a loving guardian. He has soft brown eyes and a kind face, and offers very light licks when you put your face near his. He is well-trained, knows several commands and tricks, is good with other dogs, people and even cats. In his previous home of five years he spent time with older children who adored him. Sadly, because he developed epilepsy, his family opted to find him a more suitable home, and he came back to AADR.

Oscar#8 / Jasper is perfectly housebroken and crate-trained if needed. A true-blue dachshund, he loves nothing better than to burrow under the covers and snuggle all day. Unless, of course, you open a bag of treats – as he is very food motivated. Offer him a snack and he will be your best friend for life. He takes them very eagerly from your fingers.

Oscar#8/Jasper is classified as “Special Needs” because of his epilepsy. He is on a very low dose of medication to reduce his seizures. In the month that he’s been in foster care, he hasn’t had any episodes.

Oscar#8/Jasper is healthy, up-to-date on vaccines, de-wormed, neutered, heartworm-tested, on monthly preventative and micro-chipped. To meet and possibly adopt Jasper, please contact his foster mom, Lori Neumann at Lori.Neumann@gmail.com or 773.575.8550. His adoption fee of $150 benefits other rescued dacshshunds of AADR.

More about OSCAR 8...IL

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
