BIO:

Emilie and Flora were found as strays and brought to an animal shelter.   Because they are older, AADR was contacted to rescue them.  They are a few pounds overweight, but are making excellent progress on their new diet and exercise program.  Their adopter will need to continue them on their path to a healthy weight.  The girls are in very good health and may be younger than 10.

Emilie and Flora are very attached to each other, so they must be adopted together.  They will do things independently, but eventually end up in the same dog bed.  When they went to the vet to have their teeth cleaned, they cried until they were put together in the same kennel.

The girls are very friendly with other dogs.  They have not been with cats, but they can be introduced to some if needed.  They are very easy going and would be fine with children who are old enough to understand that they must be gentle with them.

Emilie and Flora are very friendly and greet new people with happy wagging tails.  They are pretty quiet unless the other dogs start barking at something.  They like to be outside so a fenced yard or several walks a day will keep them happy.  Emmie and Flora are well housetrained and happily greet foster mom to go out when she gets home from work in the evening.  They sleep in a dog bed next to foster mom's, but would be thrilled to sleep with their people too.

If you are looking for a cheerful addition to your family Emilie and Flora are the ones for you!

More about Emilie and Flora.....OH

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
