BIO:

Bella #12 came from Montgomery, AL where she was surrendered by her owners because they didn’t have the time to housebreak her.  In the couple of weeks she has been with me (her foster mommy), she is now pretty much housebroken!  When I am home she uses the doggie door like a champ, and when I am at work she uses the pee pad I leave out for her.  I have never seen a puppy be housebroken so quickly (must be the “non-dachshund” part of her)!  If you do not have a fenced in back yard, you will have to work on leash training her.  Also, she may have an accident or two once she is in a new environment, but she is EXTREMELY smart so I’m confident she will pick up on your routine very quickly!

We don’t know what she is mixed with, but her appearance is definitely mostly dachshund.  However, her legs are a little bit longer than your average dachshund, but that only makes her sturdier!  (and that also would make her great with kids!).  She is VERY playful with her foster brothers and sisters, as well as any human she comes in contact with.  She also loves her downtime, where she will cuddle with the other dogs or humans and/or chew on a Nylabone.  In addition, she LOVES to give kisses so if you’re looking for an affectionate puppy, Bella just might be the one for you!  So, if you are prepared to own a puppy, please don’t let her foster location (which is in Columbia, Maryland) stand in your way.  We have a slew of volunteers who will help with transporting your “new best friend” to her forever home!  If you have ANY additional questions about Bella #12, please feel free to email me, Mary Anne, atmaryanne70@gmail.com.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
