BIO:

Hi, my name is Elijah!  I love to be outdoors, so much so that I sometimes don’t want to come back inside!  I would really like a fully fenced yard since I derive great pleasure from exploring.  Despite my love for the outdoors, I am still getting used to walking on a leash and occasionally need gentle encouragement to continue on my long walks. One of my favorite things to do is to sun bathe.  I will dart out of any door, so please make sure I have my leash on, if not in a fenced yard! I hate cats too!!

I get along well with my two foster brothers, probably because we’re all the same size!!  Crates don’t bother me in the least, but I really like sitting on a warm lap so I can watch your every move. I may even be THE best snuggler! Though I like watching everything, I rarely bark.  My lack of noisemaking is filled by the fact that I really like watching action movies and sporting events on the television.

I’m still very shy shy around new people, but really think that I’d like to be more outgoing. I love my foster parent so much that I have mild separation anxiety so I hope that will improve as I adjust into my foster home.   I’m an 8-year-old sweetheart, but recently had 20 teeth pulled before joining my new foster family.  Despite everything I’ve been through, I’m a very loving Doxie looking for a great forever home!

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
