Hello! My name is Sarie and I am an adorable 4 year old red piebald. I was rescued from a puppy mill so I can be shy when first meeting new people. The first night in my foster home, I slept in my crate and would growl when anyone would approach. However, by the second day, I was a happy little dog playing with my foster brothers and sisters. I may be 4 years but I never had a puppy period, so at times I act like a puppy: I like to chase my foster siblings, chew on blankets and run around acting crazy! I am currently learning to potty outside but I do use puppy pads inside. I also do not know what toys are but I am learning. My perfect home would have another young dog that I can pal around with, no small children as I can still be a bit timid and skittish, and a family who will have patience to allow me to trust humans, as I was never socialized. I walk well on a leash and I am a good listener. I am also a great guard dog because I do like to give a warning bark when someone walks in the room, however, I am learning that I do not need to bark every time.

Although, when first meeting people I might growl and act all bad, inside I’m just a scared little girl who will be your best friend if you give me a treat! I love to curl up on your lap or lay down with you on the couch. I also love to sleep in the big bed but will also sleep in a crate. I hope that someone out there can give me my forever home and I promise I will give you love, kisses and lots of fun. Are you my perfect family?

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
