BIO:

Hi, my name is Winnie!

First, I want to thank AADR for rescuing me from a rural shelter in KY, I was left abandoned there with a generic name of “Weeny” and a statement that I was not wanted. AADR stepped right up and saved me from that scary place. Now I am enjoying my warm foster home and I’m anxiously waiting for my perfect forever home!

My foster mommy says I am a laid-back kind of lady that really only wants to be wherever you are. I am crate-trained, leash trained, I have no food aggression, and I will ask to go out at the door to do my business quickly and then come right back in to snuggle next to you on the couch. I love sleeping in the big bed and I will follow you from room to room so I can be next to you…I really just want to be loved.

I get along great with my foster brothers and sister but I do like to chase the kitties so a home without cats is necessary. I enjoy a nice stroll and will keep right up with you so don’t let my gray hairs fool you, I have pep in my step and have lots of love to give.

Will you consider giving me a forever home? I promise there will be lots of kisses in return!

=============== Information for all dogs/adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of $35.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another $50.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please visit the Adoption Information.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Winnie....NY

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
