BIO:

Noelle was found as a stray and brought to animal control before the holidays.  She was very thin, but is looking and feeling much better now.  She lost all but 6 of her teeth during her dental visit, but has no trouble eating dry dog food that has been softened in water.  Her eyes are a bit cloudy, but she seems to see pretty well and hears just fine.  Noelle is a tiny little girl, just 6.5 pounds.  She may be older than 12.

Noelle spends much of her time napping under a blanket or in the sun.  She will come over and demand some time in your lap or go to the door when she needs to go out.  She promptly takes care of business outside and then heads off to explore.  She likes to trot around the yard and see what's going on.  She is a spunky little lady and can be surprisingly quick if something catches her interest.  She walks well on a leash and enjoys strolls around the neighborhood.  Noelle is well housebroken, but may have an accident if left all day.  She will use a pee pad if one is provided.

Noey gets along well with other dogs and mostly keeps to herself.  She will let a young dog know when they need to stop pestering her.  She shares her favorite napping spot with a fellow foster pup as long as he doesn't get too boisterous or step on her.  She has not been around cats, but since most cats are bigger than her, I'm sure she would be fine.  She can be introduced to some cats if needed.

Noelle can be a little grouchy with people she doesn't know if they poke at her or if she is startled while sleeping.  Once she gets to know you she is a real sweetie, but I am still careful to lightly touch her if I need to wake her or before I pick her up.  Because she is so tiny she would not do well in a home with small children.  Older children who would respect her small size and independence would be okay.

Noey sleeps in a dog bed next to the big bed, but she would be happy to sleep with her people too.  She snores peacefully under her blanket until it's time to go out in the morning.

If you are looking for a sweet little lady to brighten your days, Noelle is your girl!

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
