BIO:
Frankie and Johnny were surrendered to animal control because their elderly owner could no longer care for them.  They have been together their entire lives and are constant companions.  They may be brothers, but even if they aren't litter mates, they are best friends.
Frankie appears to be mostly blind in one eye and has limited vision in the other.  He can't see distances very well.  He gets eye drops twice daily to prevent dryness and redness.  He doesn't mind the eye drops a bit.  He also lost many teeth when he had his dental visit.  He seems much happier without all those bad teeth.  He has no trouble eating dry dog food.  Frankie can hear just fine and will often cock his head and listen when he hears your voice.  Johnny has cataracts, but can still see pretty well.  He hears just fine.  Johnny only lost 2 teeth.
The boys often walk around the house and fenced yard exploring with their tails wagging.  During the day they squeeze themselves into a little dog bed together even though larger ones are available.  At night they usually prefer separate dog beds.  They have not been crated much, but are okay with it.
Both boys are housebroken.  If they are left all day they will use a pee pad if needed.
Frankie is more outgoing than Johnny and once they get to know you they are real affectionate dogs.  If you sit on the floor they will be in your lap.  They would be fine with children who are gentle with them.  They get along well with other dogs, large and small.  They have not been around cats, but can be introduced to some if you need to know how they will do.
If you are looking for a pair of sweet old guys to warm your lap and your heart, Frankie and Johnny are the ones for you!

More about Frankie and Johnny....NY

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
