BIO:

Sami came in from an elderly owner surrender along with another dog. He was using both for breeding and Sami and the other dog got too old so he threw them away like yesterday’s trash. Luckily for these girls we were there to retrieve his trash, and we have discovered that Sami is a treasure. She may be 12 but she has some spunk in her and will take a turn around the fenced-in yard before coming back in and enjoying the nice warm house and comfortable bed. They were kept in the basement at the elderly gentleman’s house so they are finally getting to enjoy the perks of being a pet. Sami is doing well as a pet but is still a work in progress. She will go outside and potty, but just needs to be kept on a schedule. She does not sleep in the big bed but sleeps in the doggie beds available in the foster home.  Older children would probably be ok but younger (under 10) would make her too nervous. Sami would probably be best with another dog to keep her company if you’re gone from home but if retired or work from home, she’d be just fine being the only dog.

If you need more info or are interested in Sami please contact her foster mom. She will continue on her diet until she is down to her ideal weight. We think food was left out for them and they just were allowed to eat their fill, which is not good for dachshunds.

More about Sami....FL

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
