Miss Kay in 2015!

The last bio update was in Nov., 2014 and Miss Kay has gone through lots since then so want to share her story & show 2 new pictures of this adorable girl. December 27th Miss Kay was given to her new adopted parents who were to love and keep her safe forever. Three days later they say they want to return her because she was so scared, didn't eat much and just froze when they took her outside to go to bathroom. They said it would take too much time and effort to work with her! Yep just given up on in only 3 days! A perfect dog would have a hard time to adjust to somewhere new and with new people! And this little angel is a puppy mill doxie who you can tell didn't have such a good life for 8 years. Thus she is returned to Tn. and stayed there for 2 weeks before being returned to us to foster. THANK GOODNESS! We wanted her to come back to where she had been and started progressing as well as very much loved. Miss Kay came back to Florida on Jan. 3 and once in our home she immediately ran to her bed that she slept when she left here. Miss Kay is still very timid and probably will be for a long time, but she is so sweet and so appreciative; her eyes are full of love. She eats all her food up with no problems, barks and wags her tail when I come in the room; and outside she follows me wherever I go in our backyard. I do have to carry her to our backyard as she won't walk on her own from bedroom. I am happy to say she has gone to the bathroom outside everyday, but one. We are trying to get her to walk on a leash. Sometimes she will come inside on her own and run to her bed, but other times I must pick her up. This little girl is so scared, but in my arms she is content. Miss Kay just needs a woman to love her; she hasn't had this in her life it appears and so deserves same. When you look at her sleeping your heart will melt. In time, and we are talking about months, I believe she will lose a lot of her fear when she sees she can just be herself and be loved, not a caged animal to breed puppies. Please give Miss Kay a forever home so she can have a happy life.

Update, 11-24-14:

Miss Kay has been in Florida for a week now & adjusting just fine. She remains shy and timid, but in my arms she is sweetie. Miss Kay does not have anything to do with our other dogs or next door neighbor cat. I believe she would make a wonderful pet for an older individual or couple who wants a small doxie to love. Miss Kay is only 8 lbs  soaked wet.  Thus far she has not barked at all and likes to stay on a dog bed during the day where at night in a kennel. As you can see in her two new pictures she is a cutie & needs someone to love her and she will love you back......thankful being out of a puppy mill!

Miss Kay is one of the sweetest, littlest girls we’ve had in our rescue in quite a while. She was a MO puppymill dog that came to us when the miller decided to quit breeding small dogs. She came in with four other dachshunds looking for forever homes. They were surprisingly friendly once they are comfortable in their new environment. She is not leash trained but is crate trained and does very well in the big bed all night and if on a schedule during the day. She really would do best with another friendly dog to help her continue to learn how to be a pet.

We think she’d be fine as an only pet too cause she really doesn’t socialize much with the other dogs and Uncle Si came in from the same puppymilll. Unfortunately she did lose most of her teeth when she had her dental but that couldn’t be helped and we saw how much better she felt to have those nasty things out of her mouth. We just feed her softened dog food and she does great with that, if we feed treats at all they are the soft ones, no hard treats for this little girl.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
