BIO: update:

Mia came to me just as quiet and shy as can be. She is absolutely adorable and is a tiny little chocolate dapple. She looooooves to snuggle. She is so content to curl up on a lap or sit by my feet or sleep with her head on my shoulder at night. No matter where I am or what I'm doing Mia is close behind and is looking for the right opportunity to get close to me. She gets along well with my other dogs but she really is a people person and hasn't bonded with the dogs the way that she has with me. She is nervous around loud noises or sudden movements so really a home without kids or dogs would be ideal for her. Mia is potty trained to a schedule. She doesn't know how to tell me that she needs to go outside, but she will go outside and take care of business when we go out.

Mia is just an absolute love bug and will be the perfect addition to a family (without kids) looking for an easy going, lovey dovey companion!

Mia was a breeder release. When she first came into rescue she was shy and scared but that lasted maybe two days and after that she became a lap hog. Every time I would sit down she’d want to be in my lap or near me. She’s fine with foster dad too but prefers foster mom. She does great with all the other foster and is even beginning to play with the other dogs in the house.

She was a little chubby when she first came to us but we’ve got her down now nice and slim and trim. She did lose 19 teeth but we just soften her hard food with a little warm water and she does just fine.

We really think that Mia would be great for an older couple or single older lady that is home a lot, she really enjoys her people.

We have not got the leash walking down yet but we are working on it but if you have a fenced in yard she’d have no reason to want to walk on a leash.

This little girl is beautiful not only on the outside but also on the inside, please consider giving her a forever home.

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
