BIO:  Kirby is by far the mildest mannered Dachshund we have had the pleasure of fostering since we began in October.  When Kirby came to us last month (from a southern state puppy mill), it was very apparent that he had never had true human interaction as a pet.  He has since proven that he knows how to warm up to people and interacts with them very well.  For the first few weeks, he didn’t even bark.  He has since found his voice, but does not bark excessively.  He is still very timid and bashful, but loves to curl up on the couch with his human (until he gets too hot and will lie on the floor until he cools off).  Kirby does extremely well going on walks (to include putting his harness on).  He does seem to have problems going up and down big flights of stairs, but two or three steps is not a problem.  We will begin working with him on larger flights of stairs in hopes that he will learn how to manage them.  He loves bed time and is such a pleasure to wake up to in the morning with plenty of “good morning kisses” and snuggles.  He is used to staying at home in a fenced off air conditioned room and knows how to use puppy pads if he needs to go.  Otherwise, he has had no accidents on the floor and knows how to let you know if he needs to go outside.

Kirby is such a wonderful dog and would make a great addition to anyone interested in adopting him.  His life up to now does not seem to have been a very good one and I believe he would be happiest if he was adopted by someone that has the time to pamper him and provide him with as much love as he will provide you with.

MORE UPDATES TO COME AS WE GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER.

Please write a “cute” and persuasive/detailed bio for our dachshunds.  The main purpose of the pictures and bio is to increase our dachshunds’ exposure and likeability to potential adopters.  Try to focus on his/her strengths and describe him/her in the best possible light; without lying of course.  Remember a picture is worth a thousand words, but a well written bio is also worth a thousand pictures!!!

Also video links to Youtube are ok and encouraged.  However, inclusion of videos to the dog’s bios is at the sole discretion of the Board of Directors and Johnny based on quality, content, and favorable portrayal of the dachshund(s).

=============== Information for all dogs/adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of $35.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another $50.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please visit the Adoption Information.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Kirby#2...VT

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
