BIO:
Sara is a cheerful little lady who needs a new home because her elderly owner died. Fortunately a kind neighbor was taking care of Sara and her dog friends and found rescue for them. Sara is about 4 pounds overweight, but her diet and exercise program is going well. She walks nicely on a leash and enjoys strolls around the neighborhood.
Sara gets excited when we see cats on or walks, so probably would not do well living with one. She likes to play with other dogs, but will put them in their place if they get too pushy with her. Once she gets to know them she gets along fine. Sara has always been around other dogs, so would be happiest with a dog buddy. She is a little shy with new people at first, but quickly warms up and wants to be petted. She has not been around young children, but would be fine with children who are old enough to understand that they must be gentle with her.
Sara is doing well with her housebreaking, but you will need to be sure she takes care of business while she is outside or she will have an accident. She would do great with a fenced yard and a dog door. Sara is happy to snooze in a dog bed or sit in a lap. At bedtime she runs right into her crate and sleeps quietly all night. She would be happy to sleep with her people too.
If you are looking for a cute and happy little walking buddy, Sara is the perfect choice!
More about Sara...FL
Good with Dogs, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
