BIO: Bella is a sweet girl who needs a new home because her elderly owner died. Fortunately a kind neighbor was taking care of Bella and her dog friends and found rescue for them. She is about 5 or 6 pounds overweight, but her diet and exercise program is going well. Her new owner must be sure to keep Bella on her path to a healthy weight. Bella walks well on a leash and enjoys strolls around the neighborhood. She gets along well with other dogs. She has not been around cats. She is a friendly girl and would be fine with children who are old enough to understand that they must be gentle with her. She likes to snooze in a dog bed, sit in a lap, or play with other dogs. Bella would be happiest in a home with another dog friend or 2 to play with.
Bella sleeps quietly in her crate all night and is ready for a trip outside and breakfast in the morning. She is doing well with her housebreaking, but you must be sure that she remembers to take of business when she is outside or she will have an accident. Bella would love a fenced yard with a dog door.
If you are looking for a cheerful little lady to brighten your days, Bella#12 is your girl!

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
