BIO:

Hi, my name is Shelly.  I was surrendered to AADR after my Owner died and the family was unable to care for all of my family of dachshunds and myself. I have not been around many humans but I am very playful and friendly. I have a lot to learn – I am learning to go in/out of the doggie door, trying to bark at different noised I hear and starting to play with my foster sisters and brother.  I sleep in a crate at night with my older sister, Halley Lou – we like to cuddle in the blankets.  I’m not sure about eating this dry dog food yet- it’s not as tasty as the other food I used to eat- My Foster Mommy says I need to eat healthy to keep my coat shiny and thick.

I get along with all small dogs (never seen a cat) and have NO food/fear aggressions.   I enjoy going outside through the doggie door and the yard is completely fenced in to keep me safe.   I need to learn how to cuddle on laps, nap on the back of the coach and snuggle under blankets with my doxie playmates.  I am working on learning to take walks on a leash and riding in the car.   My dream Forever Home would have another doxie/dog companion for me to chum around with.  I am very young and have lots of energy.  If you are looking for the Special Doxie to add to your home- I would be the one.  If you adopt me I will be your BEST friend forever and always be at your side. What more could you want?

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
