Sadly Dottie was adopted out and returned due to no fault on her part. She gets along with all ages of dogs and both males and female. Sadly she was adopted out at 11lbs and came back to us at 18lbs so we are working very hard to get the weight off Dottie because we know how hard that can be on their back. Dottie has been back in rescue now for two weeks and we've seen no aggressive issues out of Dottie. She's a very sweet girl that loves to spend time with either foster mom or dad. She's a good eater so her food intake will always have to be monitored. Next home for Dottie we want to be her last home so please only apply if you are serious about giving her a forever home and helping her to lose her weight. Fenced yard would be best and someone that does a lot of walking.

Hi!  My name is Dottie and I’m pretty sure I got my name because of my coat!  I have a very pretty black and white piebald coat with dots throughout and little bit of tan points.  My face is black and tan and so sweet looking.  I’m very soft and trim; just the right weight.  I really love food and treats and I like to sneak pieces of my foster sisters’ food from their bowls when they’re not looking.  Even though I like my food, I’m not aggressive.

I’m a very happy and gentle doggy.  I don’t get too excited and I don’t bark much.  My bark is big though!  Laying in the sunshine is one of my favorite things to do.  Playing is something I’m not familiar with, but when my Foster Sisters play I’m curious.  I really don’t like to go potty outside in the cold snowy weather.  I will, but I would rather use the puppy pads on the tile kitchen floor.  As soon as the weather gets nice, I’m sure I will enjoy the outdoors.

I think I would love to have a brother or sister who would lay with me.  I’ve tried laying with one of my Foster Sisters a few times but they would rather lay alone.  So, I go lay with my Foster Mommy.  I really like laying with her too.  She pets my head and rubs my ears and chest.  It feels soooo good!  We sleep in the big bed together every night.  I don’t even hog the bed!

Whenever my Foster Mommy has to leave, my Foster Sisters and I are gated in the kitchen.  I’m fine in my crate too, but who wants to go in there if they don’t have to?  It’s available to me whenever I want to lay in it.  I also ride well in the car.

I’m good with cats.  In fact, I’m kind of afraid of them.  They are strange looking and make funny noises.  They aren’t mean to me, but I stay away anyway.  I did notice they clean their face the same way I clean mine!  My Foster Mommy thinks that is really cute.

So, my wish list for my forever home is:  a nice Mommy and/or Daddy who is as gentle as I am, a sweet Brother and/or Sister who would like to lay with me, warm weather for at least part of the year with plenty of sunshine to bask in and a fenced yard would be pretty awesome too, so you don’t have to take me out on a leash!

Contact my Foster Mommy if you think I will fit well into your home!  She would be happy to answer any questions you have.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
