BIO

This precious little girl is as shy as she is sweet.  She came from a puppy mill setting with many other dogs housed in a very small area with nowhere to sleep but on each other.  She is so grateful for a dog bed and her very own blanket. She spent most of the first week with us laying on her blanket in her bed.  Anita took a while to come out of her shell and she needs someone with lots of patience to encourage her.  Once we gained her trust, she has come such a long way in a few days, now wanting nothing more than to stay by us, tail wagging gratefully, sitting on our laps and enjoying our company.  And we certainly are enjoying her.  She gives us tons of kisses and so much love.  She has quickly become such a cuddle bug and she is a very special little girl.  She needs work with leash walking and house breaking, which we have started.  She will use a doggie-door but, does well with puppy pads if there is no fenced yard.  She wants so much to please.  Anita yearns to have a loving forever home to call her own.     Can you give that to her?

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
