BIO:
Abe is an extraordinary dog! He has so much affection to give. Right now he is very skinny and timid, but has made enormous positive strides in both. Abe absolutely can’t get enough attention and will curl up with you and is completely content to just lie there with you for hours if you will let him. He will get in some of the most obscure positions as he manipulates himself as close as possible to snuggle with you. One of my favorite things to see is Abe sitting at the top of the stairs waiting for me to come up from the basement. He has an adorable look on his face and slightly tilts his head to the side as I walk up the stairs. When Abe eats, he acts like a vacuum. He doesn’t seem to chew at all and simply inhales all his food. I have a feeling this stems from his past unfortunate experiences of “fastest eater gets the most”. He is learning that he can slow down now that there isn’t any competition for food, and really think it won’t be too long and he will enjoy eating his food slowly. House training is going very well and he is a very quick learner. Playing with toys is a very new concept for Abe and with time I think he will enjoy it very much. Right now his favorite toy is an old sock (it’s a start). He uses pet stairs very well to get on our couch so as to minimize jumping injuries. Abe would be a great pet for any family with any age children. He truly has SO MUCH love to give and is looking for the family that will give him as much as he will give them.

More about Abe...KY
Good with Dogs, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
