BIO:

Hi, my name is Amos!  I am a puppy mill doggy and it will take me longer to warm up to you than most other doggies.   My Foster Mommy couldn’t even touch me for 3 whole days!  Now that I am more comfortable, I’m a lap dog.  I am also a sponge for love.  Just sitting with my Foster Mommy makes her feel like a million bucks!  I like to be up high, on top of my Foster Sister’s crates and even on the table.  I’m most comfortable in high places.  Also, being in the big bed at night is an especially favorite place to be.  I don’t like going in a crate.  My Foster Mommy gates me in the kitchen when she leaves and I’m OK with that.

I like being in a place that is calm with patient, loving people.  I get very scared when there is a lot of action.  I prefer not to be around kids, but I don’t mind other doggies or kitties.  I mostly just want to be with my Foster Mommy where I feel safe and get so much love.  I haven’t had much reason to bark or growl, mostly I’m just quiet.  I haven’t learned to play yet, but we are working on that!

I am also working on leash and potty training but I do how know to use potty pads.  A fenced in yard would be great for me.  I need someone who has the patience to work with me on some of my issues and who will appreciate every baby step I take toward being a “normal” doggy.  If you think you are that person, please contact my Foster Mommy or put in an application.

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of $35.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another $50.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please visit the Adoption Information. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you cancomplete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Amos...IL

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
