Meet Despi (Desi)

Mr. Despi was surrendered to AADR when his family could no longer care for him. Despi is going to need a doxie savy home! He is too smart for his own good.  If he can get away with something, he is going to try to push you. Despi would excel in a home with another doxie to play with because he loves his foster sister. He has learned A LOT since coming to his foster home. He knows how to sit, lay down, off, out, no, and sit pretty. If you are looking for a doxie to teach tricks to this is your guy! He is a Velcro doggie. He loves his foster mom & follows her EVERYWHERE. Loves to sleep in the big bed, and cuddles like a champ! He isn’t fond of kids & will bark at them, not aggressively but will bark. For this reason we feel he would be best in a home with no kids. He is good with cats, just wants to play with them. He loves his toys & shreds them in true doxie style.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
