BIO:

Hi!  My name is Dutchess, and I’m a very happy and sweet dachshund!  I am My Foster Mommy’s first Foster doggy, and she says she couldn’t have gotten a better girl.  I’m smart and happy and my tail is always wagging!  She says I’m very pretty and I have a sweet face too.  I follow my Foster Mommy everywhere, and when she sits down I’m on her lap!  At night, I get to sleep in the big bed and I sleep ALL night long.  But when it’s time to get up, I’m ready to potty, eat and play!  I have a lot of energy.  I live with 2 other doggies and 2 kitties!  I love all of them. I like to lick the kitties’ faces.  They don’t like it so much, but I do it whenever I can get away with it.  I love attention and to play, especially with my squeaky ball.  However, I’m a little uncomfortable being picked up and carried around right now.  I would love a fenced in yard where I could run and play and potty without a leash, but a leash is okay too.  I like boy doggies better than girl doggies because I like to be the boss.  I go in my crate to eat so meal time can be peaceful.  I love my food and I am happy to help other doggies eat their food too.  I also sleep in my crate while my Foster Mommy is at work.  I do great!  I had a couple of accidents my first day, but now I’m on a schedule so we don’t worry about that any more.  I like to bark sometimes, but not for just any reason.  I let you know when the mailman comes, if someone walks down the sidewalk, or even if I hear another doggy barking while I’m outside.  Mostly, I’m just happy lying on my Foster Mommy’s lap and playing now and then.  If you adopt me, I’ll love you forever!

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
