BIO:

My name is Dora: My original my owner surrendered me in mid-October to a lady attempting to do Dachshund Rescue on her own.  The Rescue lady (Judi) had to move into an apartment d/t financial difficulties from her home of more than forty years. She said I am about 2 y/o but the Vet thinks more like 1.5 years old.  Here is what Judi told AADR about me:

Dora is the one I took in a few weeks ago.  She's about 2 years old, and very scared.  Timid, but once she gets to know you, VERY affectionate.  She should be in a home with no small children.  They scare her.  She LOVES to cuddle when she gets used to you, loves treats and is very food motivated.  She's very thin, I've actually put weight on her since I got her.  She's very tiny, maybe 7#'s.  Gets along with my other dogs and is crate trained” .

I have been with my new “Foster Mom” for just a short time.  I have been completely Vetted and heartworm negative- I got a “clean bill of health” from the Vet.  I have learned so much since I’ve been with my new foster mommy: I can go in/out of the doggie door, play with the other doxies in the house (5 others besides me) and cuddle on my Foster Mommy’s lap as much as I want.  I am a playful and happy little dachshund.   I play with my foster siblings all the time, especially outside, as we have lots of energy.  I like taking naps on the rug or back of the coach and being held and cuddled on my foster moms lap.   She says I’m her “little shadow”!   All I have to do to keep busy is: play, eat, potty, and snuggle to make me happy.  I don’t bark much and have no food or fear aggressions.  I do scar easily so be gentle with me as much as possible and I still need help with potty training.    I am looking for my forever home; a family who will give me lots of love, take me for walks, cuddle and play with me and always keep me safe.

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
