BIO:

Petey needs to have a fenced in yard and another dachshund to play with.

Hi everyone, my name is Petey!  Foster Mom calls me "Peanut Butter on a Paint Brush" not sure where she got that from, maybe it is my unique color.  I am quite a handsome young man if I say so myself, well that is what I hear all the time so it must be true.  So, what can I tell you about me ... I'm a brindle, boy dachshund, my birthday is April 21, 2013 so yes, I'm still a youngster.  I like to run and play with my foster brothers both large and the short and long ones like me; I really like the big black and tan dog, he always plays with me.  I like chewing on bones, tearing up my stuffed toys and eating peanut butter from my bone.  I’m trying to work on housebreaking but it is hard for a young guy like me sometimes but I know with continued work I will learn.

When Foster Mom brought me home from the scary place with a lot of barking dogs I was so excited, then I seen these very furry things that made a funny 'meow' sound, I just did not know what they were so I chased and chased them ... well, that wasn't a very good idea, if you know what I mean, so now I mostly ignore them.  I love it here and it is even best when I get to sleep in the big bed but there are too many of us and I'd really like my very own home.  Hey, maybe that is you!!

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
