BIO:  Prissy was dumped in a high kill shelter in Northern AL by the family that just said “she’s our grandmothers dog”. What we do know about Prissy that she is hand shy and will flinch when you get near her head when she doesn’t know you very well but once she knows you mean her no harm she is fine this takes about a day maybe less. She’s a sweet sweet girl that need a final place to rest her head. She is no trouble and enjoys a doggie bed and even some doggie company on that bed. She is not a barker nor a digger, she just wants a soft bed and her food and she’s a happy camper. Oh she’ll let you know when it’s meal time for sure. Because we don’t think her first 12 yrs were very good please help us to find her the best last home and that she’ll be treated well. She likes to cuddle but it’s not necessary if you don’t want to she’ll wait for you. A fenced in yard would be great.

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If they choose transporting by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of 35.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another 35.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

To understand the adoption process through AADR please visit the Adoption Information.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Prissy #3...PA

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
