BIO

Kimmy was abandoned in a house when her owners moved away.  Fortunately a neighbor contacted the sheriff's department and they got her out of the house and to the local animal shelter.
Kimmy is a pretty red color with soft fur and silky ears.  She likes to sit in a lap, but is not pushy about it and is happy to  snooze on the couch or in a dog bed.  She loves to have her belly rubbed.  She will stay in a crate, but is well behaved and has been allowed to roam freely in the house.  Kimmy happily greets her foster mom at the door when she gets home.  At night she hops up on the bed, curls up, and sleeps quietly all night.  In the morning she waits patiently to be lifted down and taken outside.  Kimmy seems to be well housebroken and has had very few accidents.  She goes out first thing in the morning, when her foster mom gets home in the evening, and right before bedtime.  She walks well on a leash and enjoys walks around the neighborhood.  She gets along well with the other dachshunds and dachshund mixes in the house, male and female, young and old.  She also does fine with cats.  Kimmy has not been around young children, but is very sweet and would be fine with children who are old enough to understand that they must be gentle with a small dog.
If you are looking for a laid-back pretty little lady, Kimmy is the one for you!

More about Kimmy...NC

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
