Meet Remie, a very handsome Dachshund who has come a long way since his arrival from the shelter. He was a snappy, frightened little boy with a mouth full of painful decay and infection. You would be snappy too. Now he is all fixed up and ready for his forever home. Remie is all filled out, hair grown back and coat shiny and healthy. Eight teeth removed and infection cleared up he now lets us touch his mouth and is learning to play again. He does the best sit up and beg with paws waving that we have ever seen. He is good at going upstairs but definitely must be carried down unless it is just a few shallow porch steps. Remie is sweet and friendly but prefers women to men. He must not be off leash when outside as he simply follows his nose and will be gone. He does walk beautifully on leash and loves to ride in a car. He is one stubborn scent hound and isn't that what we love about them? He does not dig however, so your garden and yard are safe. Remie is a laid back boy and prefers humans to other dogs but gets on well with females. He is a lap sitter and will gently nibble the tips of your fingers if you scratch his back. He is not a chewer and has done no damage here. He will crate for a treat but much prefers sleeping with you under the covers, and can he ever sleep! He is fully housebroken but needs to keep on a schedule. This guy has captured our hearts and will do the same to you. I think that he will do best with an adult quiet household and someone with previous Dachshund experience. If you would like to meet Remie please fill out an application.
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
