BIO:  Sophie was turned into a shelter in northern AL as a stray. She is only one yr old and unfortunately she was already heartworm positive. So now she is going through treatment and will be ready to go to her new home on the 12th of Aug. She will come with a six month supply of Heartgard to ensure that when she is retested by her new owners in 6 mos that she will test negative.

This little girl is a trip, she likes to play hard with the other fosters so will have to go to a home with another playful dog. She does like to be a bit of an alpha girl so another dog that is willing to turn the reigns over to her would be best and MUST have a fenced in yard and she loves to be outside and playing in the yard.

She is doing very well with sleeping all night and going out in the morning to potty. She is used to sleeping in the big bed.

We think no young kids as they would make her too nervous or she may play too rough with them not that she is a wild child but she’s just a young girl that likes to play.

Sophie does like to bark so a home in an apartment will not be the best for her, cats no she’d probably not treat the cat very well.

If you are looking for a mini than Sophie #7 may be a good choice for you if you have a fenced yard, no young kids and another playful dog. Apply today because with her being young, female and black and tan smooth she will be highly sought after. Good Luck!!

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If they choose transporting by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of 35.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another 35.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

To understand the adoption process through AADR please visit the Adoption Information.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
