BIO:
Winnie is a dachshund with what appears to be a little minpin or chihuahua mixed in. Her nose, ears, and body are a little short and her legs are a little long. Her personality is 100% dachshund though. She loves squeaky toys and snuggling under a blanket. Winnie is an All American girl with a birthday on the 4th of July. She will be turning 6 this year and is still full of playful fun. She could stand to lose a few pounds and has started a diet and exercise program in her foster home. Her teeth have been cleaned and she has a sparkling white smile.
Winnie is very well housebroken and will come to you and sit pretty and whine when she needs to go out. She walks well on a leash and enjoys walks around the neighborhood. She would love to have a fenced yard to play in. Winniegets along well with other dogs. She hasn't been around cats, but tries to chase them when we see them on our walks, so would probably do best without a cat or other small animals in the house.
She is not at all shy and likes both men and women. Winnie does fine with older children who understand that they must be gentle with a small dog and that she will sometimes need her own space. Winnie has not been crated, but is such a good girl that it hasn't been necessary. Winnie has been sleeping in a dog bed, but would be happy to sleep with her person as well.
If you are looking for a happy girl filled with personality, Winnie is the one for you!
More about Winnie...NY
Good with Dogs, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
