BIO:

Miss Scarlett came from middle AL where she was being kept outside with two other dachshunds. When we found out they were outside dogs in the heat of summer and the cold of winter with no questions asked we said we’d take them. Dachshunds are not outside dogs other than to do their business then back in the house they want to be and Miss Scarlett is no different. She caught on to the doggie door in no time at all.

What Miss Scarlett loves to do is be in your lap, if there is a lap she’s in it as soon as you sit down. She is low key, housetrained and has beautiful teeth. At 10 yrs old that is something to be concerned with but she came with beautiful teeth and if the new owner takes care and gives her yearly dentals she’ll have her teeth well into her teens.

The thing that strikes me most as her foster mom is her friendliness and her ability to get along with all the dogs in the foster family.

Our wish for her is to have another dachshund to keep her company and a fenced in yard when she wants to be outside. Please consider Miss Scarlett she won’t let you down.

More about Miss Scarlett...AL

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
