BIO:  He has completely come out of his shell and is fully showing his fun personality! He loves to run and play. He also absolutely loves laying his head on my shoulder and going to sleep. Can't wait for this sweet boy to find the perfect home! He surely deserves it! :)

Stevie was captured in a live animal trap in Lewisburg, TN because no one could catch him and the good Samaritans were afraid something would happen to him if not captured soon.  They knew he’d been running loose for at least 2 weeks and possibly longer. They left food out for him in the hopes of getting close enough to get him but to no avail. Then AC was called in to help, they caught him and took him right to our vet for vetting. Once there he started to feel safe and would let people touch him if they went slow with him. Well since then he has NOT looked back. Stevie is learning to trust and be a lap dog and be the pet he may have been at one time, for being so young so much has happened to him but this story will have a happy ending with YOUR help!

Sadly we think that Stevie had been kicked at one time in his young life because he has a fractured rib that does stick out  some. It does not bother him but something that the adopter would been to be aware of. If only Stevie could talk!

He is learning about pottying outside and is doing well, he loves the fenced yard and being with the other dachshunds in the foster home.

Our wish for Stevie is to have a fenced in yard, a loving family and another dachshund or two to play with, please consider Stevie and make this his happy ever after….

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If they choose transporting by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of 35.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another 35.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

To understand the adoption process through AADR please visit the Adoption Information.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Steve...NJ

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
